2 x Japanese wagasa c. 1920's Vintage Shinshiro, Aichi Industrial, Postcards:
$264.82

·2 x Japanese wagasa (umbrellas)

·Box of Postcards/Photographs

·With a little help from ChatGPT, I haveworked out the markings may point this wagasa to the Aichi Prefecture,Shinshiro city. The imagery seems to indicate something like “Leap Forward, NewAdvancement Association. – Chamber ofCommerce

·It seems to be a celebration/promotion ofan industrial association or event in the City, celebrating rapid progress oradvancement.

·The design includes detailedillustrations of industrial scenes, a bird, perhaps a phoenix or crane and thesun.

Red and white wagasa:

·This one appears to have no markings,so I am unable to give much detail other than what the photos portray. It isfrom the same person who travelled to Japan in the early 1900’s, so it ispossible this item is also from Shinshiro City. They did, however, travelthrough Kobe and Tokyo as well

Box of Postcards/Photos

·Gatheringof postcards from Japan, notably Tokyo, Kobe and even some from Paris. Theyappear to be a mix of urban and country postcards, in general celebrating themore historical side of the Japanese culture.

Fascinating view into Japan pre WorldWar II, including some images of buildings before they were destroyed by bombing in World War II.

My grandmother’s landlord left someitems to her. She lived in Elwood (Melbourne, Victoria, Australia) and came from a very well to do English family. Someof the items included were both the wagasu's and the photos from the period.

I know she had told of travelling toJapan towards the start of the 1900’s, though I am unsure exactly when thatwas.
