Incredibly active and famous during his life as a newspaper man from Augusta, Maine, to Representative in the US House (including service as speaker), Maine senator to the US Senate, cabinet secretary to a variety of presidents, and a presidential candidate vs. Grover Cleveland.
Hard cover. Absolutely excellentcondition overall. Cover has the typical Victorian ornate design, with gold title and bust of him. Measures 6" x 8" x 2", and A WHOPPING 704 PAGES LONG!!
Great reading and an excellent early reference on him. The attached scan will not do it justice, but hopefully will provide an idea of the content and condition.
