This very old stoneware crock is from L. Myers Dairy (no longer in operation) in Cincinnati, Ohio. The crock is large, 9 1/2 inches in diameter and 5 5/8 inches tall, and was probably used to hold cottage cheese.
The crock is in really nice condition. There’s a small scuff on the rim of the crock, and a very small surface chip on the inside. Both of those imperfections were undoubtedly part of the original firing process. The bottom is marked “U.S.A.”
Dating the crock is fairly easy. The dairy started in the early 1900s. There’s a 1930 advertisement in Cincinnati’s Catholic Telegraph edition for the L. Myer Dairy on Glenmore Avenue, along with the four-digit phone number. I’m guessing, then, that this crock is from the 1930s to 1940s.
