Item Description: Vintage, large, framed Japanese woodblock print signed by the artist, M. Kawashima. The artist's orange seal is also stamped on the lower left side of the print. The title of the piece is 'STALLION' and it was believed to have been originally produced in 1962 (per the date handwritten on the back). Numbered 10/100. Solid wood and glass frame with dark mahogany/cherry finish and matching fabric mat with peek-a-boo silver accent. This print had been professionally framed much later than it was acquired, and the information that is likely written on the bottom border of the print was transferred to the back after it was framed and covered up by the mat. Hanging wire attached with two eye hooks. Minoru Kawashima (1910 - 1980) was a Japanese woodblock artist.
Measurements: The exposed part of the print is approximately 21.25" x 15.5". Including the frame, it is approximately 29.75" x 23.75" with a depth of 1.25".
Condition: The print itself appears to be in excellent condition with no tears, rips or stains. The frame is another story; it is in fair condition with visible signs of wear and damage (mostly concentrated on the back). Possible moisture damage/discoloration on the upper left corner; nicks, scrapes, and stains in many places on the front of the frame, and there is white painter's tape on the back which has hardened and starting to peel away. It's a shame because the mat job is stunning and matches the print perfectly. The frame could just be painted to give it a new life if so desired. The glass is in excellent condition with no cracks or visible scratches. PLEASE SEE ALL PHOTOS for close-ups and condition.
