Add this unique piece to your collection today! The process for creating a high-relief coin design like the one pictured involves a blend of modern digital technology and specialized minting techniques. The High-Relief Minting ProcessDesign Creation: The process starts with an artist creating a detailed design, often as a large plaster model or a 3D digital model using computer-aided design (CAD) software.Die Creation: The large model's design is scaled down using a reducing lathe or computer-controlled engraving machine to create a positive-image master hub and then negative-image working dies. For high-relief coins, these dies are specially made to allow for the significant depth and dimension.Metal Preparation (Planchet Creation): The raw metal (in this case, copper) is refined, rolled into strips, and punched into round blanks. These blanks are annealed (heated and cooled) to soften the metal, making it more malleable for the striking process. They also have a rim raised around the edge (upsetting) to help contain the metal flow during striking.Striking: This is the most critical step for high relief. The prepared blank (planchet) is placed into a high-pressure press, often a hydraulic press, between the two dies.Unlike standard circulating coins which are struck once, high-relief coins require multiple strikes at increased pressure to force the metal to flow into every intricate detail of the deep die. This slow and even application of pressure allows for the highly pronounced, sculptural effect.Finishing and Inspection: The finished coins are handled with gloves to avoid damage and individually inspected for quality before being encapsulated or packaged, as the high relief prevents them from being easily stacked.Fast Shipping
