Rare authentic early German spun-cotton Christmas ornament from the 1930s–1940s.

This delightful figure depicts a little cook (or baker) in a tall white hat, holding a large cooking spoon. It is a classic example of traditional German Watte-Christbaumschmuck — the spun-cotton technique that flourished in the craft regions of Saxony and Thuringia from the late 19th to mid-20th century.

Construction: wire forming frame, layered molded pressed cotton, fixed with traditional paste. The face is original composition with plump cheeks, carefully hand-painted in period colors. The large spoon is an integral part of the design. Original metal hanging loop remains on the top of the hat.

Height: 15 cm (approx. 5.9 inches).

Condition is honest and good for a nearly century-old textile piece. The structure is sturdy, the original paint on the face is well preserved. Only natural age characteristics are present: gentle darkening of the cotton (noble patina), light surface soiling on the apron, and authentic signs of time that underline the piece’s genuine age and history. Fully original — no restoration, no modern intervention.

A wonderful and uncommon addition to any collection of antique German Christmas textiles, early spun-cotton figures, or vintage European holiday décor.
