Vintage Wood 2 Piece Advertising Sign J.H. BELD CHIROPRACTOR:
$650.00

This is a rare and remarkable two-panel antique wooden hanging sign from the professional office of J.H. Beld, Chiropractor.

Constructed from solid wood planks in a classic two-board design, the sign features a rich black painted background adorned with bold, beautifully hand-lettered gold and yellow text.

The top panel reads J·H·BELD and the bottom panel reads CHIROPRACTOR and the original hanging rope and hardware are still intact on the top panel.

The sign shows wonderful authentic age patina, paint wear, and weathering that is entirely consistent with a piece that is estimated to be anywhere from 40-50 or more years old, yet it still displays with tremendous character and presence.

Chiropractic as a recognized profession was founded in 1895 by Daniel David Palmer in Davenport, Iowa, and by the early 1900s through the 1930s and 1940s, chiropractors across America were hanging wooden hand-painted office signs just like this one outside their practices.

These two-panel hanging signs were crafted by professional sign painters and represented the standard form of professional advertising of that era.

The bold serif block lettering style seen on this sign is entirely typical of the period and speaks to the skill of the craftsman who created it.

The name J.H. Beld does not appear in any current online records or databases, which strongly suggests this individual was a small-town or rural chiropractor practicing in the early to mid 20th century, most likely somewhere between the 1910s and 1940s.

The complete absence of any digital record makes this sign an even more extraordinary and unique historical artifact, as it may very well be the only surviving physical evidence of this individual’s entire professional practice and career.

This is a genuine antique, not a reproduction, and it represents a truly one-of-a-kind piece of early American professional and medical history.

Named individual trade signs for chiropractors almost never come to market, making this an exceptional find for chiropractic offices looking for meaningful decor, antique collectors, medical history enthusiasts, or folk art admirers.
