Great old Lakeside 12-piece socket firmer chisel set with its original fitted folding wooden carrying/display case. An attractive set for the antique tool collector, traditional woodworker, timber framer, carpenter, restoration craftsman, or vintage tool enthusiast.
The largest chisel measures approximately 2\" across the cutting edge, with the remaining chisels progressively decreasing in size.
All 12 chisel irons are marked LAKESIDE and are also stamped with the former owner\'s initials “FM.” These matching owner marks are part of the history and character of this old working set.
The original paper label remains inside the wooden case and identifies these as:
“Socket Firmer Chisels – Best Tool Steel”
“Handles Leather Tip”
“Set of 12”
There are 12 Lakeside chisel irons total. Nine currently retain wooden handles. Three are without handles and could be fitted with replacements. Several of the existing handles show age-related chipping, cracking and wear but remain usable. Some retain their leather striking tips.
One chisel has a broken/damaged socket and will require welding or another substantial repair before normal working use.
The chisels show honest working wear throughout, including dings, nicks, scratches, staining, oxidation and evidence of sharpening and use. They have a great vintage tool appearance and have not been aggressively polished or restored.
The original wooden case has an individual opening for each chisel. The tools stand upright for easy access and display when opened, while the hinged wooden sides fold closed around the set for storage and transportation. The case retains its hook-and-latch closure.
A great old Lakeside timber framing and woodworking chisel set, particularly appealing with all 12 Lakeside-marked irons, graduated sizes reaching a substantial 2\" cutting edge, and the original labeled wooden case remaining together.
