Quality Commodity – Fresh Estate Find
Up for your consideration is a fascinating lot of 14 vintage Stereoview cards, featuring a mix of historical, industrial, and global scenes from the turn of the century. This lot was recently salvaged from a local estate and remains in its original, uncleaned condition.
Lot Highlights:
• H.C. White Co. (1 Card): A rare 1904 "Gen-U-In" series view titled "Japan's gallant soldiers on the Parade Ground, Tokio, before departing for the war." Produced in North Bennington, Vermont, H.C. White cards are prized for their high-contrast photographic depth.
• Keystone View Company (13 Cards): A diverse selection from the world’s premier stereoview manufacturer. Includes scenes such as:
• Industrial/Agricultural: "Mining the Great Raritan," "Husking Cocoanuts," and "Gathering Turpentine."
• International Landmarks: Mount Victoria, Japan, and various European architectural views.
• Cultural: Scenes of traditional life and military encampments.
Condition Notes:
These are Real Photo Stereoviews (RPPC style), not lithographs. They are on classic curved mounts, which were designed to provide a better 3D effect when used with a stereoscope.
• Images: Generally sharp with good contrast. Some minor silvering consistent with age (early 1900s).
• Mounts: Expect typical shelf wear, including some softening of corners and light foxing/soiling from decades of storage. No major creases or breaks noted.
Dimensions: Standard approx. 7" x 3.5"
