The dog is modeled with the breed's characteristic tall cropped ears, long muzzle, powerful chest and elegant elongated legs. Its glossy fawn-colored body is beautifully shaded in cream, tan and smoky gray-brown tones, complemented by a dramatic black muzzle and facial mask. Hand-painted brown eyes and black-painted claws add considerable personality to the figure.
The underside bears the distinctive script “Will-George / Pasadena” maker's mark.
Will-George was founded in California in 1934 by brothers William and George Climes and became particularly known for decorative animal and bird figures. The company moved to Pasadena around 1940, making the Pasadena signature particularly useful in dating examples from this period.
At approximately 14 inches tall, this is a substantial display piece and an especially attractive example of vintage California animal pottery. No box.

Condition: Very good vintage condition with extensive age-related glaze crazing throughout, visible in the photographs.
