Features issues from 1959-1963 10-12¢, Low, Mid & Lower High GradesAll 15 Comics with fresh bag & board & double boxed shipping.Curt Swain Cover Art & lots of great stories!All Comics are Complete, No Cut Outs but in various grades.
See comments below on grading estimates & you can judge. Sorry for sideways video, but at least we could get it in!Really nice bundle! Nothing super fancy, but some nice read & put aways and a few in the higher grades. Priced under most recent resales of these comics & bundled to save even more. We tried to include a few extra pictures of the higher graded ones, but it was hard with so many comics in the bundle.
Comics are as follows:
1.) Superboy #71 DC Comics 10¢, March 1959. This one, is one of the rougher ones in the bundle, but comic is complete & attached. Has good color & remaining sheen despite heavy wear at spine with 1\" split at bottom & some flaky edges. Several color break creases & tears. Pages are cream but show some wear as well, but do have good color, print & images. Staples are off color. Comic likely a 2.0 (Good), but some may grade a tad higher. Good read & keep Silver Ager. This was from 1959, not 1958, I was incorrect in my video.
2.) Superboy #76 DC Comics 10¢ Oct 1959, Decent looking cover with strong color, images & sheen, but has some wear. A flat spine & darkened staples, wear & possible moisture wave on right side edge. Some bending at lower right corner. Some creasing on cover & heavier creases on the back. Front Cover has tanned slightly & back has some foxing as well, but pages are cream with mild soiling on inside page. Complete, attached & likely a 3.5 (VG-).
3.) Superboy #83 DC Comics, 10¢ Sep 1960. Looks like a 7.0 in it bag, but has some wear as noted. Great cover art with strong color, images & remaining sheen. Strong spine with just a minor lift & minor bend in lower left corner. Micro splits on right edge, moderate tanning inside front cover & non color break bend on lower right corner. Pages are cream with sharp color, images and print. Slight color break crease on back cover. Pretty solid overall 5.5-6.0 (F- to F). Good display quality.4.)Superboy #87 DC Comics, Mar 1961,10¢. First appearance Kolli, Krypto\'s Sweetheart!Generally nice looking cover with strong color, images, sheen & print but a few noted dings. Solid spine with a moderate roll. Upper right corner has a 1/2\" x 1/4\" piece missing & slight flaking on lower right edge. Without these this could have been a 7.5 or higher grade, but they are present. Slight tanning inside cover & nice uniform, cream pages. Likely a 5.0 to 5.5 (VG/F to F-) grade due to noted issues.
5.) Superboy # 90 DC Comics, July 1961 10¢, This one is rough but complete, has detached lower staple & upper is just holding on. Kind of rough all over, with tape & some brittleness to cover. Pages are cream but lots indents & bends. Good old reader copy but only 1.0-1.5 (F/G). But we will bag & board it just the same & you do have Mickey Mantle advert..... but even Mickey is a little beat up!
6.) Superboy #99 DC Comics, Aug 1961 10¢, This is complete, detached at upper staple & lots of wear. Spine roll, stains, creases, but makes a good reader copy. Likely a 1.5-2.0.
7.) Superboy #94 DC Comics, Jan 1962, 12¢ (the 1st as 12¢), Solid comic overall, but has some noted wear. Goodcolor & images & remaining sheen, but slight spine roll, wear at upper left edge of cover spine, color break crease at lower right & bend or soft crease on right front. Moderate soiling, wrinkling on lower left corner. Some tanning to cover & some moderate wear at corners. Complete, attached, no cut outs, pages are cream with nice color, images & print. This is likely 4.5 (VG+).
8.) Superboy # 96 DC Comics, April 1962 12¢, Really nice appeal to this comic. Cover looks like a 6.0-7.0 with great color, images, original sheen, decent edges with only a slight spine lift, but has some creasing in lower right corner, and some small 1/8\" tears at edges. Wear along spine & upper staple is detached inside cover has some non color break bends as well. Cover has tanned, pages are nice cream with good color, print and images. While is has great display look, wear & detached staple at top drops this to 4.5 (VG+).
9.) Superboy #98 DC Comics 12¢, July 1962,Decent looking comic but has some wear. Cover has good color & images, but some loss of sheen, slight spine roll & 1/4\" flake off at top right spine, some color break creasing, flake offs on right edge, tanning to cover, pages are decent but cream to tan. Comic is complete & attached. 4.0-4.5 range.
10.) Superboy #99 DC Comics Sept 1962 12¢, Solid comic with strong colors & images. Left side of comic is a 7 but the right side a 4! Nice flat spine with firm attachment but the right side of cover had some moisture at one time & is dimpled top to bottom. Pages are cream but pretty nice with moderate bend. Cover has tanned & has wear on right edge as well. Probably have to drop this into the 4.5 (VG+) range. Has pencil mark \"40\" on front as well. Pretty cool cover look with the Kryptonite kid & his dog.
11.) Superboy #100, Oct 1962 DC Comics Anniversary Addition, 12¢, Solid comic with strong color & images & decent remaining cover sheen. Complete & firmly attached staples. Has a spine lift & wear, some handling marks & tanning to cover, minor flexibility loss, light corner wear & moisture dimpling on lower left (I took a full point off for that). Soft bend (no color break) lower right corner & 1/4\" tear bottom center. Pages are cream but have very good color, images & print. Likely a 5.5 (FN-) due to cover wear & dimpling but I nice display comic.
12.) Superboy #101 Dec 1962, DC Comics, 12¢, Nice comic with nice color, images & print. Looks like a 7 when bagged, but a close look shows some additional wear. Has a smidge of a lift at spine & moderate wear, has a soft bend to upper right of comic that goes to back cover and becomes a crease & some light moisture mark top right. Cover has darkened mildly inside front & back has a large crease and some flexibility loss. Pages are O/W/Cream and pretty nice. Somewhere in the 5.0 (VG/F) range but does display better.
13.) Superboy #102 DC Comics, Jan 1963 12¢, Sharp comic with great display quality. Great color, images & print, just a small spine lift, but solid, attached and complete. Looks almost mint when bagged. Slight wear at upper right corner near code stamp. Light tanning to interior cover and O/W pages, some minor color transfer on back cover at lower right but its small. 7.5 (VF-), one of the nicest in this bundle!
14.) Superboy #103 DC Comics 12¢, March 1963, Solid mid grade comic. Strong images, color & print on cover, just a tinge of spine lift, but solid, attached and complete.Has some remaining sheen as well, but some color break creases at lower right corner and minor flake offs in right edge. Cover has some tanning inside and back cover has a small tear hole on top left when facing down, plus some flexibility loss and heavier edge flaking. Pages are cream & pretty nice with nice color, print & images. Maybe a 4.5-5.0 (VG/F) due to back cover, but displays better of course.
15.) Superboy #108 DC Comics, Oct 1963 12¢, Nice cover with great color, images, sheen & good edges. Solid spine with slight lift, there is a small color break crease on upper right corner, lower right & one on lower edge 2\" in from lower left corner, but none really detract much from comic\'s appeal. Mild tanning to interior cover, nice O/W pages with good color, images & print. I think this would be a solid 7.5 (VF-) or an 8.0 (VF). A good collector piece.
We love our comic book collectors & they are truly the best people we have dealt with in 25 years of selling collectibles & other. For that reason, we normally do not utilize professional grading services on comics as we feel it does not allow a buyer to see a comic in full view if it is incapsulated. Even with the mint & near mint 9+ comics we sell, we avoid graders and prefer to let the Buyers decide while offering general comments of note to help them. Comics are not like simple front & back collector cards, comics have a full life & stories within them that should be weighted in equal measure (or at least some measure) along with the front & back covers. Buyers deserve a full view of what they are buying. You might see a minty cover & trashed pages or more commonly, some wear to cover, but exceptional pages within.
So, when offering anopinion on a comic\'s grade or condition, we do try to utilize the more accepted & common grading standards used by professional grading services with a somewhat conservative lean. In addition, we try to detail the overall condition of a comic, including interior pages along with the cover. We show multiple interior page photos & video comics when possible to further assist you in determining what you feel a comic\'s condition & value may be. You can also use the zoom feature to get an even better look.Finally, we always suggest that buyers use their own opinions on grading & value & not our own & we cannot guarantee what a service may grade a comic at compared to our opinion. While wehave never had a legitimate complaint on our descriptions of comics or other collectibles, antiques & other items we sell, we are not perfect.
We try to start our sales (or priced) listings below reasonable market value based on our observations & sales information (price guides & online sales) available, but we know all people are free to judge as they feel is correct.Note also, occasionally comics may be selling higher or lower than current price guide values due to market changes, death of artists, film releases or other factors. All value is ultimately determined by what buyers are willing to pay, based on their opinions.
