This item is a lot of 18 vintage WWI stereoview cards from 1918, produced by Keystone View Co. and Realistic Travels Publishers. The cards feature black and white images depicting various aspects of World War I, including views of trench warfare, Marshall Joffre, the Somme Front, bridge over the Marne, Belleau Wood, Reims Cathedral and the lonely grave of Lt. Quentin Roosevelt in France, son of Pres. Theodore Roosevelt. These original and authentic cards offer a unique perspective on the conflicts and wars of the early 20th century, captured through the use of a stereoscope to create 3D images. Made of cardboard and spanning the time period of 1914-1918, these vintage cards, when viewed through a stereoscope, provide a glimpse into the historical significance of the First World War.
Both Keystone and Realistic produced boxed sets of stereoview cards documenting WWI. Realistic was the most successful publisher of British stereoviews, and Keystone, a American company and pioneer in the development of this photographic technique, became the largest stereoview card publisher in the world.
