Original 1875 True Democratic Banner Letter & Advertising Cover – Morristown, New Jersey
Offered here is an original handwritten letter dated September 23, 1875, on attractive True Democratic Banner – Newspaper, Book & Job Steam Printing Office letterhead from Morristown, New Jersey.
The letter is signed Mrs. L. C. Vogt. Historical records identify Mrs. L. C. Vogt as an owner of the True Democratic Banner, a longstanding Morristown newspaper established by Louis C. Vogt in the 1830s.
The handwritten letter reads approximately:
“Your note received, and I am sorry to hear you have been sick. You may come on Saturday morning, as you propose. Try not disappoint me this time.
Yours,
Mrs. L. C. Vogt”
Included is the original matching True Democratic Banner Steam Printing Establishment envelope, addressed to Chester, New Jersey. The envelope retains its original green 3-cent U.S. postage stamp and Morristown, N.J. cancellation dated September 23.
