Original 1880 promotional broadside/program for “The 8th Wonder – The Engle Clock”, exhibited at Lower Horticultural Hall, Tremont Street, Boston. Measures approx. 6\" x 8.5\" closed, 4 pages.

The Engle Clock, built by Stephen Decatur Engle of Hazleton, Pennsylvania, was considered one of the most remarkable mechanical achievements of the 19th century. Sometimes called the “Nineteenth Century Ahead” and even “The 8th Wonder of the World,” it was a monumental astronomical clock incorporating automaton figures, music, biblical scenes, and allegorical representations.

Front cover with bold advertising text and an illustration of the Engle Clock.

“Opinions of the Press” (1880 newspaper excerpts praising the invention).

History & Description of the clock with details of automata and symbolic figures (Father Time, Death, Apostles, Virgin Mary, Judas, etc.).

Information on exhibitions and lectures, managed by Capt. J. Reid.

A fascinating piece of horological history, blending advertising, mechanics, and religious symbolism. Rare survival from the original Boston exhibition run of December 1880.
