Original January 17, 1896 business letter on attractive illustrated Office of the Boston Directory letterhead, No. 155 Franklin Street, Boston, Massachusetts.
The upper left features an ornate purple advertising design for Sampson, Davenport & Co., 155 Franklin Street, publishers of the Boston Directory and directories for a number of other New England and New York cities. An early 2-cent George Washington revenue stamp is affixed over a portion of the printed advertising.
The handwritten letter is addressed to the Treasurer of the National Savings Bank of Albany and requests that a draft be mailed for money deposited, together with interest due on Book No. 298. It is signed Wm. E. Murdock, with a witness signature appearing to read O. F. Davenport.
A particularly nice piece of late-19th-century Boston publishing, directory, banking and business ephemera, with an unusually decorative letterhead.
