Original October 20, 1896 handwritten letter on an exceptionally graphic The Comet Coal Company letterhead of Dayton, Ohio. The elaborate illustrated heading features a large comet/star design and identifies the firm as “Miners and Shippers of Wellston Shaft Coal,” with mines near Wellston, Jackson Co., Ohio.
The letter is addressed to the Urbana Wine Co., Urbana, New York. The writer, Miss Alta Hagner, explains that she has a very nice sideboard in her home and asks the company to send her a suitable piece of glass bearing the firm's name to display on it and keep as a present. She signs the letter and gives her address as 736 Wayne Ave., Dayton, Ohio.
