Simplex was a premier American luxury and high-performance automobile manufacturer, active roughly 1907–1917 in New York City, built on the earlier Smith & Mabley Simplex chassis. Simplex cars were among the most expensive and technically advanced American cars of the Brass Era — rivaling Mercer and Stutz in performance pedigree, aimed at wealthy buyers.
Surviving Simplex automobiles today are exceptionally rare and valuable — complete original Simplex cars sell at sale in the hundreds of thousands to over a million dollars (they\'re a fixture at Pebble Beach-caliber Brass Era events).
This plate has the \"H.P.\", \"MODEL\", and \"CAR\" data fields blank rather than stamped, and shows real oxidation and red enamel wear consistent with genuine age
