1904 St Louis World’s Fair 36 x 31 Cascade City Harpers Litho H M Pettit EX Cond:
$248.90

1904 World’s Fair (Louisiana Purchase Exposition) "The Cascade City" of St. Louis. Measuring 36 x 13, this large beautiful lithograph waspublished as a folding panoramic supplement to the January 24, 1903, issue of Harper's Weekly.

Illustrated by renowned American Architectural painter, H M Pettit, this is a remarkable birds-eye conceptual rendering of the upcoming 1904 World’s Fair.

The lithograph captures the fair’s "White City" aesthetic, designed in the grand Beaux-Arts style. An outstanding color lithograph that emphasizes the symmetry and scale of the 1,200-acre fairgrounds in Forest Park

The image highlights the Court of Honor, centered around the Grand Basin and the famous Cascades—a massive system of man-made waterfalls and fountains that moved 45,000 gallons of water per minute.

At the top of the central hill stands the gold-domed Festival Hall, flanked by the Colonnade of States.

Because it was published in early 1903, this lithograph was a primary tool used to generate public excitement and "sell" the vision of the fair to the nation more than a year before it opened.

Excellent condition. No splits at any folds. Vibrant colors.
