Original antique “Hold Card to Light” postcard issued as an official souvenir of the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair/Louisiana Purchase Exposition.
The postcard depicts the Palace of Horticulture. When held in front of a light, the building’s windows, crescent moon and other selected details appear illuminated. Published by the Samuel Cupples Envelope Company of St. Louis.
It is approximately 5½ inches wide by just under 4 inches high.
This example was postally used in 1904 and bears a World’s Fair St. Louis cancellation. It was addressed and mailed internationally to Paris, France, adding another interesting piece of history.
Antique condition with visible toning, creasing and wrinkling, along with age-related surface, edge and corner wear. The hold-to-light effect remains clearly visible. Please examine all photographs carefully, including the illuminated and non-illuminated views, as they form part of the condition description.
Currently stored and photographed inside a protective holder. It will be transferred to an individual protective sleeve and securely packaged before shipment.
