Offered is an original 1909 stock certificate from the New Jersey & New York Extension Railroad, issued to railroad executive Frederick D. Underwood.
Frederick D. Underwood was a prominent American railroad executive who served as President of the Erie Railroad from 1899 to 1926. During his leadership the Erie modernized its operations and expanded its freight and passenger services across the Northeast and Midwest.
The New Jersey & New York railroad system developed during the expansion of rail transportation connecting northern New Jersey with the Hudson River and New York State. The line ultimately operated through Bergen County, New Jersey, into Rockland County, New York, providing a key regional rail link in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. These lines were eventually leased and controlled by the powerful Erie Railroad, one of the major railroads serving the northeastern United States.
Condition: I am not a professional and this comes from my father’s collection of antique stocks and bonds. Given its age, it shows toning, foxing, edge wear that includes folds/tears and cancellation holes. It shows an interesting train/country background vignette and was printed by Henry Seibert & Bro Warren NY.
