1912 Postcard Constantinople Galata Harbor Ottoman Flag French Handwritten Letter
\"Constantinople - Vue de Galata\" (\"Constantinople - View of Galata\"), showing a harbor scene with moored sailing vessels, a large cannon in the foreground, and the Galata Tower visible on the hillside skyline. A small printed illustration of the Ottoman flag (crescent and star on red) appears in the lower left corner as a decorative border element. The reverse of this particular card is blank of handwriting in this scan, making it a clean example of an early 20th-century Constantinople view card.
The reverse side of a postcard published by \"1005 E.F. Rochat, Constantinople, Édition d\'Art de l\'Orient (Déposé),\" bearing a handwritten letter in French, dated \"Péra, ce 20 Juin 12\" (Pera, 20 June 1912). The writer thanks \"Monsieur Charles\" for charming postcards received upon returning from the countryside, sends compliments to a \"Mr. Vincent,\" and mentions additional cards sent from a scenic location. The card is addressed to Monsieur Charles Wicart, Lille, France (street given as Rue Meurein 36), and is franked with an Ottoman 20 para stamp bearing a small overprint, cancelled with a circular Ottoman \"Ambulant\" (traveling post office) postmark associated with Constantinople, though the full route name is [partially illegible]. This is a genuine mailed example, of interest for Ottoman postal history and Pera (modern Beyoğlu) expatriate correspondence just prior to WWI.
\"Pera, 20 June 1912. Dear Mister Charles, Upon returning from the countryside I found your charming postcards and thank you very sincerely. Kind regards to Mr. Vincent — he also sent me some cards of the pretty spot where he must be. Your friend, [signature].\"
