Original January 30, 1943 WWII handwritten letter from Pfc. John J. Omiciuoli, Company E, 35th Infantry, APO 25, written to his sweetheart Josephine in Erie, Pennsylvania.
A wonderful piece of WWII correspondence with an especially interesting home-front detail: Johnny thanks Josephine for a package containing “a carton of Lucky Strikes and the cookie package.”
He tells Josephine he is feeling fine and healthy and asks whether she received the last gift he sent her. He says he will not be looking for any more packages for a while because he is “in a place where I can’t even see or come close to a female.”
Johnny also writes about how each of them spent the Christmas holidays. He tells her he ate turkey for lunch and drank Ocean Rum, which he says “tasted like Calvert to me.” He asks whether she is still working at the Erie factory or as a waitress at the Tango Conga, asks about her family and mother, and tells Josephine he thought about her during the Christmas holidays.
He closes by asking her to continue praying for him, writing, “for I need a lot of prayers,” followed by “May God Bless you all.”
The letter is written on colorful vintage airmail stationery featuring an airplane illustration and red and blue border.
Original matching airmail envelope is included. The envelope features a striking blue Territory of Hawaii coat-of-arms design, 6-cent U.S. airmail stamp, February 2, 1943 U.S. Army Postal Service APO cancellation and Army Examiner censorship marking.
