Original real photo postcard showing a candid street scene dated January 13, 1949.
The photograph captures a woman walking along a city sidewalk while wearing a light-colored knee-length coat, dark shoes and what appears to be a scarf or hat. She carries a small handbag beneath her arm. Her movement gives the photograph a natural, spontaneous quality unlike a formally posed portrait. Another pedestrian walks behind her, while several other figures and a large commercial or public building are visible in the background.
The exact city and the woman’s identity are unknown. The reverse bears the handwritten date:
“Jan 13, 1949”
Printed on ANSCO postcard stock with stars surrounding the stamp box. The card was never mailed and contains no address, personal message, postage stamp or postal cancellation.
Although simple in subject, this is an appealing example of mid-century American vernacular photography. The scene preserves everyday winter clothing, women’s street fashion, urban architecture and pedestrian life immediately after World War II.
CONDITION
Good vintage condition with light overall toning, minor corner and edge wear, scattered small surface marks and light soiling. A noticeable diagonal crease or bend is present near the lower-left corner, with additional slight corner softness. The photograph has mild fading and some motion blur inherent to the original candid image. The reverse has the handwritten 1949 date and a small red numerical marking near the lower edge. Unposted. Please examine both scans carefully for the complete condition.
