1957 GOEBEL \"BUTCH\" COCKER SPANIEL by ALBERT STAEHLE, \"BUG EYED\" STAE 1 For Sale

Goebel (Germany) \"Butch\" figurine by Albert Staehle, model STAE 1, signed and dated 1957. Staehle, famous for his Smokey the Bear character, became perhaps more famous for his illustrations of his own Cocker Spaniel Butch, who graced the covers of Life Magazine as well as others during the 1950\'s. Goebel produced this line of figurines depicting Butch in comical situations, highly sought after by collectors today. This is the first model is the series, titled Bug Eyed\", with Butch looking cross eyed at the insect perched upon his nose. The bug is metal and attached to the ceramic figurine. Butch\'s name is incised in his collar hang tag. Beautifully modeled and decorated. Measures 3 1/2\" tall by 3 3/8\" long. This figurine has been kept in a display cabinet behind glass since I purchased it in 1994. Typical glaze crazing on underside. No chips, cracks, repairs or restorations.
