This is the world famous Unter den Linden in East Berlin as it now looks. Once one of the most fashionable avenues in Berlin, it is now dull and almost deserted. Though the scars hardly show in this photo, it was badly wrecked in the bombings of World War II. In the far background is the Brandenburg Gate, the divider between the two Berlins.
