DC-9 Series 30, new, longer version of Douglas Aircraft Company\'s DC-9 twinjet transport, is put through its paces during first flight today. At the controls was H.C. Van Valkenburg, veteran Douglas test pilot, with George R. Jansen, chief engineering test pilot, as co-pilot. Weight at takeoff from Long Beach Municipal Airport was 85,000 pounds, including 10,000 pounds of test instrumentation and data recording devices. DC-9 Series 30 has 15-foot-longer fuselage and four-foot-longer wing span than earlier version of the twinjet, the DC-9 Series 10, now in commercial operation. Airlines in the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia and Asia have ordered 237 DC-9 Series 30s.
