Pair of antique French postcards depicting two classic views of Marseille, France, dating approximately to the early 20th century.
Included are:
* No. 78 bis - Marseille - La Place Castellane - an especially lively street scene showing the Place Castellane with its former monumental obelisk, horse-drawn carriages, pedestrians, early overhead transit/electrical wires, surrounding buildings and street lamps.
* No. 7 - Marseille - Le Palais Longchamp - panoramic view of the Palais Longchamp, showing its monumental architecture, gardens, fountains and cascading water features.
Both cards bear the same F.G. circular publisher/series mark visible on the image side and have lightly colorized details, including red rooftops and subtle coloring to architectural and street elements.
Both postcards are unused and unposted, with divided backs marked “Carte Postale / Correspondance / Adresse.” No writing, stamps or postal cancellations.
The Place Castellane card is particularly appealing for its detailed snapshot of everyday Marseille street life, including horse-drawn transportation and pedestrians around the square.
Condition: Good antique condition with expected age-related toning, light surface wear/soiling and minor edge and corner wear. Both cards have a distinctive rough/perforated-looking edge along one short side, suggesting they may originally have been detached from a postcard booklet or connected series. Please review photographs closely for exact condition.
