The lot includes:
1. Littleton View Co. No. 1222 — “Picking Cotton, Georgia.”
Littleton View Company, Littleton, New Hampshire, “Stereoscopic Treasures” series. Shows Black cotton workers in a Georgia field with a large basket of picked cotton. This exact title and number is represented in the collection of the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture, which dates its example to ca. 1900.
2. Keystone View Company No. 13735 / 60 — “A Typical Texas Cotton Field at Picking Time.”
Excellent documentary view showing a group of Black men, women and children picking cotton in a large Texas field. Printed descriptive text concerning cotton production and harvesting on reverse. This exact Keystone view is documented in both the Harvard Houghton Library and Palmer Museum collections.
3. Keystone View Company No. 8054-A — “A ‘Corner in Cotton.’”
Staged genre view showing a Black man and woman seated together in a cotton field. Salmon-colored mount with the original period narrative printed on reverse. Strong image contrast and detail.
All three are original period stereoviews, not reproductions.
Condition varies as shown in the photographs. The Littleton Georgia view has substantial fading/toning, age wear and staining/soiling near the upper right corner. The Texas Keystone has very good image clarity and contrast with normal mount and edge wear. “A Corner in Cotton” has particularly strong photographic contrast with normal age and handling wear. Please examine all photographs carefully as they are part of the condition description.
All three cards are being sold together as one lot.
