A commanding vintage carved wood standing figure from Cameroon, hand carved from a single piece of hardwood and rising to an impressive 42” tall. The face is boldly rendered with large, wide-set carved eyes and a serene expression, set atop an elongated, gently rounded torso and long tapering legs, standing on a dramatic crescent-shaped base. The surface carries a deep, rich patina built up over decades.
Provenance: Comes with a period collection tag reading “Cameroon, per Jim Willis,” dated 1998, with a noted valuation of $2,000 at that time. Jim Willis (1937[?]–2019) was a leading San Francisco tribal art dealer and specialist, active from 1972 until his passing, respected for his expertise in African, Oceanic, and Indonesian art.
