Maui Stripe millipedes are a small and attractive species featuring warm orange-brown coloration with a distinctive dark stripe along the back. They typically reach approximately 1–1.5 inches and make a fascinating addition to a dedicated millipede collection or naturalistic display enclosure.
One of their most fascinating features is their ability to fluoresce blue under a UV flashlight or blacklight. UV exposure should be brief and used only for occasional viewing.
CARE:
• Beginner to intermediate care level
• Ideal temperature range: 70–78°F
• Keep the substrate consistently moist but not waterlogged
• Provide good ventilation and a layer of pesticide-free leaf litter
• Use a nutritious, soil-based substrate containing plenty of decaying hardwood
• Provide enough substrate depth for burrowing and molting
• Do not allow the enclosure to dry out completely
IMPORTANT HANDLING INFORMATION:
Like many millipedes, Maui Stripes may release a defensive secretion when stressed. Handling should be kept to a minimum. Wash your hands thoroughly after contact and keep them away from your face and mouth.
