Offered is a wonderful group of seven vintage miniature Cracker Jack spinning-top prize toys, dating primarily to approximately the 1950s.
These small molded plastic tops are representative of the inexpensive novelty toys placed inside Cracker Jack packages during the classic mid-century period. Cracker Jack produced numerous variations of spinning tops over the years, including metal, tin-lithographed and later molded-plastic examples.
This lot contains seven different tops with an attractive variety of openwork and molded decorative patterns. Included are approximately:
- Red circular spinner with four star-shaped openings and central spindle.
- Yellow geometric/star-shaped spinner with open sections.
- Dark burgundy/purple floral or pinwheel spinner with detailed curved leaf pattern.
- Tan/pink floral openwork spinner with circular scroll-type petals.
- Tan/brown floral spinner with radiating leaf/petal design.
- Dark metallic/silver-tone circular openwork spinner with four spokes.
- Light silver-gray/pearl circular openwork spinner with four spokes.
Each has a raised center stem/spindle designed so the piece could be twirled as a miniature top.
The red four-star design is a documented Cracker Jack spinner style from approximately 1950; comparable examples are currently offered individually as vintage Cracker Jack prizes.
The assortment is particularly appealing because it demonstrates the variety of decorative molds and colors used for these tiny promotional toys.
Condition: Vintage used condition. The pieces show varying degrees of surface wear, scuffs, scratches, discoloration and molding imperfections consistent with age and use. The metallic-tone examples show some finish wear/tarnish. The center spinning stems appear present on the examples shown.
