IN WONDERFUL ORIGINALORDER, SUITABLE AS A DESK ORNANMENT?
This sale is to purchase a charming and very decorative antique ArtDeco period scratch built oak cased miniature long cased clock. This timepiece has been wellmade and has a truly outstanding period patina. This item probably dates fromthe 1930’s, but maybe earlier if the movement can be dated? The clock is inexcellent working order, but will require regulating in its new environment.
The case: The case is fashioned from matched decorative Oak hardwood panels,which feature charming hand worked details which really add character. Theupper frame holds the clock face and has a removable top, which enables the movementto be removed for winding and adjustment. The movement is loosely secured by a piece ofoak. The case stands on four turned feet. There appears to be a signature tothe base of the case, but this not legible.
The movement: is of U.K manufacture by renowned makers Smiths M.A. and probablydates to the C1930’s or maybe a little earlier. The lovely cream dial isbordered in nickel and features an hour and minute hand. It is stamped SmithsM.A. and UC 500 at 12 O’clock. The movement is of the hand wind type. To therear are the winding and regulating instructions. Regulation is by way ofadjusting the movement through a covered aperture to the side. The movementworks well, but a with most antique clocks will benefit from a service andregulating. The history of the movements original purpose is unknown, but is clearlyfrom an industrial base?
Condition report
This item is inoriginal antique condition 2/3. The panels are in excellent order and only showage related shrinking to both front an rear faces. This does not detract fromthe wonderful aged and patinated appearance of the clock overall. The movementworks, but would benefit from a full service and regulating in its newenvironment. The nickel finish to the movements frame shows wear. The dial andhands are in excellent original order as is the original glazing. Please see detailed images.
