ANTIQUE LIMOGES HAND PAINTED CAVALIER MAN PORTRAIT PLATE ARTIST SIGNED 1900 For Sale

Antique hand painted portrait plate of a man, often known as a "cavalier" in the Limoges vernacular. There is partial underglaze stamp which reads only "France" in green but based on my sleuthing, I believe this was made by the Delinieres (D & Co.) factory. The cap style looks like a Delinieres mark and the scalloped shape/size looks like one of their blanks. The artist's signature is on the back in red and looks like "Jon SJ.A, 1900."

The man is wearing a wide brim brown hat and has a ruffled white collar. He has a long beard and curled mustache like the dandies typically portrayed in these plates. The colors are primarily brown tones with a hint of green in the center. The plate's diameter is 8 1/2" and it's in very good condition: there is a small scratch in the paint at about 4:00 on the front, shown in the closeup photo; a VERY fine hairline crack on the reverse side that does not go through to the front (you can not even put your fingernail in it, last photos), and light wear to the paint around the edges. There is also an errant black paint dot on the back.  This is a worthy addition to any Limoges portrait plate collection!  Please email with any questions.
