This is a silver gelatin photograph that is unmounted and is 10 x 8 inches (254x203mm).
It shows an airman operating a machine gun from inside a bomber aircraft. He is wearing heavy winter flying gear, including a sheepskin-lined suit, flying helmet, and gloves. The interior metal structure of the fuselage is visible around him, with the gun mounted at an open side window.
The reverse has a very faint, illegible purple stamp in the centre. A pencil annotation in the bottom left corner reads 'WB5406'.
