This antique Takamakura wooden pillow neck rest is from the Meiji period and, based on the translation, was likely used by a commander or general flag officer in the Imperial Japanese Army at a pivotal time of militarization in Japan.

Historical Translation:

Right Side: 明治十五年十一月 — November, Meiji Year 15 (November 1882)

Left Side: 十之内太東将用 — Number 10 / For General Use in Taitō

Aged natural wood with original black ink calligraphy, this superb collectible features authentic weathering, wood grain texture, and historical patina. The left-side inscription indicates this was box "Number 10,” specifically designated for "General/Command Use" (将用). Perfect for collectors of militaria, Japanese history, Meiji-era artifacts, or unique Asian calligraphic art. (The raised wooden pillow is that same style as used by geisha of the era to protect their hair.)
