This is a lovely late 19th-century Mermod Frères 10-air cylinder music box, circa 1885. This is a classic Swiss music box with a beautiful illustrated tune sheet and a wonderful, crisp tone.

Condition Highlights:

The mechanism is in excellent condition — the cylinder pins are tall and sharp, the comb is complete, and it runs smoothly with a loud, clear, and bright sound. It plays exceptionally well.

The case shows its age. The lid has a visible crack that goes all the way through, along with scratches on the floral inlay, chips, and areas of missing varnish/paint.

The sides of the case are in much better shape with nice original finish.

This is a very playable example of a Mermod Frères music box. While the case has honest wear and a crack in the lid, the musical movement itself is very clean and sounds fantastic.

Also includes the original zither muffler (the paper strip in the silver tube), which creates a softer, reedy tone when engaged.
