Antique 1890s Ernest Nister Moss Roses Die Cut Fan Booklet Doll Size

Wonderful and unusual antique Victorian die-cut “Moss Roses” miniature fan booklet, printed by Ernest Nister of Nuremberg, Bavaria, with publishing information for Ernest Nister in London and E. P. Dutton & Co. in New York.
Dating to approximately the 1890s–early 1900s, this delightful little novelty book is constructed from individual die-cut rose-shaped leaves joined at the base by a metal eyelet. The leaves swivel outward to form a beautiful fan or bouquet of roses.
Each leaf features a different beautifully chromolithographed rose on the front in soft shades of pink, cream, yellow and red. The cover is titled “Moss Roses” in decorative lettering. When opened, the backs reveal sentimental Victorian verses celebrating roses, happiness, memory and friendship.

Ernest Nister was particularly celebrated for his elaborate late-Victorian children’s books, movable books, chromolithographs and ingenious paper novelties. This tiny fan format is especially appealing.
At only about 3 1/2 inches tall, it is also absolutely wonderful for display with an antique French or German bisque doll. It would look charming held by a larger fashion doll, bébé or child doll, or displayed in an antique doll vignette.
Measurements
Each die-cut leaf measures approximately 3 1/2 inches tall.
Approximately 6 inches across when fully fanned open.
Condition
Very nice antique condition considering the age and delicate paper construction. There is expected age toning, scattered discoloration/foxing, small edge nicks and wear, and some small tears or losses around portions of the die-cut edges and narrow connecting areas. There is some old pencil writing on the reverse of the cover.
The original metal eyelet remains in place, allowing the individual leaves to swivel and fan outward as intended.
The chromolithographed colors remain especially attractive and the booklet displays beautifully both closed and fully opened.
