Antique 1909 Philippines Military Memorial 6th Cavalry Troop G Framed For Sale

This exceptionally rare chromolithograph military service memorial for Trooper Benard A. Harty of the 6th U.S. Cavalry Troop G comes in an original period frame and measures approximately 24\" x 26\" It was published in Manila, Philippine Islands in 1909 by A.G. Moody and has the lithographer\'s mark of \"Chofo & Natividad, Manilla\" in the lower right corner, which was one of the most prominent printing firms in Manila during the Spanish and early American colonial period, confirming this was a high end, locally sourced commission, not a mass produced American import. A.G. Moody was a prominent American bookseller and stationer based in Manila during the early 1900\'s and Trooper Harty most likely purchased this directly from Moody\'s shop as his primary \"coming home\" souvenir at the end of his service in 1909. The document features hand inscribed details for Trooper Bernard A Harty which documents his full 3 year term from May 1907 to May 1910 with Troop G, 6th Cavalry, more famously known as the \"Fighting Sixth\" which was a frontline unit tasked with the pacification and reconnaissance in the rugged tropical terrain of the southern islands against fierce local insurgencies. During this time the 6th Calvary participated in several engagements, including the decisive actions against the Moro outlaws in 1909. Surrounded by stunning chromolithograph images featuring the American Eagle, tropical landscapes, soldiers and naval scenes of Manila Bay, it also has multiple real photo images of various soldiers in the unit - integrated directly into the lithograph, another unusual feature adding to the overall appeal.

The authentic early 20th century frame shows some wear, typical of the age, with no major issues. The original period glass has a few small seed bubbles and has no cracks, chips or damage. The chromolithograph has not been examined out of the frame but is a little rippled from age (which could easily be cured with a more modern backing if so desired. There is a small tear at the bottom (pictured) but that could also be hidden with a little work. It has a few spots of foxing and browning but still displays well. A really stunning piece of Military history, well preserved with light age appropriate wear and beautiful antique patina that perfectly complements the colors of the lithograph! Much nicer in person, the pictures just don\'t do it justice!
