Charming antique English diminutive grandmother / longcase clock, dating to approximately the 1920s.
The unusually petite wood case measures only approximately 50-1/2” high x 10” wide x 6” deep and is finished in a wonderful aged red lacquer-style surface with gilt and painted Chinoiserie decoration. The case features floral, landscape, architectural and figural decoration throughout, with a shaped hood and silver-tone dial with Arabic numerals.
The brass mechanical movement is marked ENGLAND and has two winding arbors, a pendulum and coiled gong. No winding key is included.
Mechanical condition: The clock is not currently running and is being sold as-is for adjustment/service. While experimenting with the clock, the movement has shown signs of wanting to run, and the pendulum will swing, but the clock has not yet been properly leveled or tested for an extended period. No attempt has been made to service or adjust the movement. Please assume that cleaning, adjustment and/or professional servicing may be required before regular use.
The clock remains in estate-fresh condition with attractive old surface and patina. There is expected wear to the red and gilt decoration, scratches, rubbing, small losses and other evidence of age and use. Interior has accumulated dust and debris. Please examine photographs closely for overall condition.
A particularly appealing example because of its diminutive 50-1/2” height, making it much easier to display than a traditional full-size longcase clock.
