A handsome antique Ansonia Berkeley eight-day mantel clock in an ornate late-Victorian walnut gingerbread case. The tall architectural case features elaborately carved and pierced decoration, a star-form crest, a Roman-numeral dial signed “Manufactured by the Ansonia Clock Co.,” and a decorative reverse-painted glass door.
The clock retains its pendulum and winding key. It is currently running and was observed striking once on the half hour and the corresponding number of times on the full hour. The time and strike were synchronized when tested.
The Berkeley model is believed to date to approximately the 1890s based on the Ansonia markings and trademark, identified model, late-Victorian case design, dimensions, and period catalog references. The precise production year has not been independently verified.
