Antique Art Nouveau Pyrography Hanging Photo Frame, Dianthus 9” C1890 For Sale

Antique Art Nouveau pyrography (wood-burned/pokerwork) picture frame featuring an organic floral motif. It features a scalloped, bracketed outer border with prominent corner extensions and a central oval opening designed to hold a portrait or photograph. A small brass loop hanger is attached to the top.

It is decorated with deeply etched dianthus or similar ruffled flowers, along with long stems and unopened flower buds reaching up both sides. The background area around the smooth, lighter wood flowers has been densely textured with a stippled or cross-hatched pattern using a hot metal poker. This creates a dark, high-contrast recessed field that forces the floral motif forward This specific style of folk art was often referred to as "Flemish Art" or "pokerwork" and was highly popular during the late Victorian and Art Nouveau eras.

The frame measures approximately 9 inches by 7 7/8 inches with a 4.25 inch by 3.5 inch oval opening. Original glass. It is signed on reverse. There a chip to the lower right as shown in photos. Otherwise, it is in excellent condition.
