Item Description:Up for sale is a beautifully preserved, authentic 19th-century imperial red wax seal impression originating from the Austrian Empire during the historic reign of Emperor Franz Joseph I.This magnificent piece of royal ephemera is safely housed in its original, two-piece concentric circular brass skippet (protective capsule container) which unscrews/separates to reveal the immaculately detailed impression inside.Design & Iconography:The central wax medallion features an extraordinarily crisp, high-relief strike of the Austrian Imperial Double-Headed Eagle (Doppeladler). The eagle is depicted beneath the Imperial Crown of Austria, holding the traditional imperial sword and scepter in its talons, with the complex multi-quartered heraldic coat of arms shields of the Habsburg-Lorraine domains emblazoned across its body and wings. The outer circular border features a clear Latin inscription (legend) identifying the sovereign rule, including "FRANCISCUS JOSEPHUS I" boldly visible along the top arc.Condition Report:Excellent antique condition. The red wax is exceptionally clean with outstanding preservation—showing virtually none of the heavy chipping, cracking, or melting typical of wax seals this age. The sharp relief details on the feathers, crown, and text remain crisp. The 4-inch concentric brass skippet shows a wonderful natural aged patina with minor surface oxidation marks consistent with an authentic 19th-century object.
