ORIGINAL 'Battle of New Orleans and Defeat of the British Under the Command of Sir Edward Packenham by General Andrew Jackson, 8 Jan., 1815" Engraved by James W. Steel, After a drawing by Samuel Seymour, Published by William H. Morgan.' 1819 ENGRAVING
This is really a wonderful piece. This is one of those prints I was going to send to sale but thought probably best just to offer it to the community. When I acquired this print it was in an early matte and frame that was glued down over the print with the print glued to the backing. Because it was in a package I got, I was able to put some money into having it restored.Image measures about 14 x 18 inches on sheet measuring 16 1/2 x 20 inches. It was removed from the backing and the matte. De acidified and cleaned. As you can see the outer margins that were under the matte are still pretty white. The rest of the print shows the consistent toning. The image itself is in outstanding condition. Some small inconsistencies to the margins and you can see a few small repairs at the top but it is really in excellent condition. Backed with japon paper, it is preserved and will stay this way. Just a very good example of this rare print.I have found a couple for sale in the $1400-$1500 range.Dont miss this chance to pick up this print for a fraction of what it sells for.
