Vintage BLACK FOREST Hand Carved Sculpture IBEX CHAMOIS Statue LINDEN WOOD

Size- 15\" high x 6.25\" long x 4.5\" wide

Extremely fine carving- classic style of the Brienz area woodcarvers of Switzerland. Details are incredible, small carved details and EXTREMELY lifelike representation of a Chamois/Ibex Mountain Goat.

The small village of Brienz in The Swiss Alps is renowned for superbly and finely carved linden wood figures of animals that integrated into Swiss life.The carvings from the Brienz region were known for being superbly naturalistic and realistic with wonderful depiction of fur, feathers etc. and from being carved from one piece of wood, often from linden wood. These figures are finely carved with superb detail of their fur, faces, legs and tails etc. and this being typical of Black Forest carved figures.

He is standing on a rocky outcropping rendered in a very realistic style

Outstanding retails to the goat\'s hair, hooves, texture of horns, and even the pupils on his eyes are slanted correctly as a goat\'s would be. He has the typical goat\'s beard and is even anatomically correct [although not ludely so]

Wood has been gently polished to have a natural smooth finish and then meticulously hand stained for the most realism possible.

These were produced for a very specific \'World Tourism\' market that flourished in the late Victorian/Edwardian era. I would be very confident dating this piece to the early 1920s or before. On the inderside of the wood is carved a number, 2171 DX 35
