Classic utilitarian form gives this antique stoneware crock a rustic farmhouse character, featuring a substantial cylindrical body in natural gray stoneware with a deep brown Albany-style glaze covering the upper portion and interior. The thick rolled rim, simple undecorated body, and heavy construction are characteristic of American storage crocks made for preserving and storing foods and other household staples. Dating to approximately the late 19th to early 20th century, circa 1890s–1920s, the crock has no visible maker’s mark, so a specific pottery cannot be confidently assigned.
