Antique C.L. Wüst Swiss Cantons souvenir playing-card deck, produced in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. This beautifully illustrated deck features French suits and detailed court cards depicting figures in traditional Swiss regional dress, with place names including Zürich and Bern.
The Swiss Costumes design was first published around 1865 for the growing Swiss tourist market. This set includes 53 cards total and its original floral and dragon-decorated slipcase marked Frankfurt A/M. C.L. Wüst manufactured playing cards in Frankfurt until 1927.
Cards and case show considerable age-related wear, including toning, staining, softened corners, surface rubbing and handwriting from a previous owner. The box has tears, creasing and losses around the opening.
