An excellent antique Italian majolica Cantagalli plate dating to the late 19c. Cockerel marking on the back. Beautifully hand painted in the renaissance raphaelesque style featuring a putto (cherub or Cupid) with two doves on strings in a landscape scene encircled by grotteschi (grotesque) decorations of angles and various shields of weapons and instruments within the ochre-dashed yellow border on the scalloped rim.
Condition:
Very nice antique condition. A single old chip to the rim as shown (see last photo), with minor glaze imperfections present at manufacturing on the reverse.
Measurements:
8 3/4" in. (22.5 cm.) diameter 1 in. (2.5 cm.) high.
