This antique Chinese cinnabar lacquer-on-brass vase was scooped up at an amazing estate sale.
I’ll never forget this sale. The couple who lived in the home were avid travelers, and their collection of thousands of eclectic pieces spanned the globe. I could have stayed there forever looking through each item and wondering about what their trip was like and why they chose that certain piece. I’m sure they had so many stories to tell!
This is what’s so incredible about thrifting, imagining the history and the energy that sits inside each piece.
This unique vase depicts the story of a traveler as well! Follow his path as he moves through 4 scenes of discovery and transformation set in the backdrop of traditional Chinese cultural elements.
Trees, temples, leaves. I like to think he’s going through the stages of life and learning about what’s important - experiences and love and connection.
Handmade in China, it stands at 6.5" in height and is 11-1/2” in diameter at its widest point.
I am unsure of exact age, but there is rusting and wear throughout. Pictured. You can see the brass and sap throughout the intricately carved layers.
I think this adds a unique touch. Art about traveling that has also traveled itself :-)
Perfect for collectors of Chinese artifacts or those interested in Asian cultures. And travel, around the globe and in life!
Thanks for peeking!
