This 100% authentic, original Grand Army Of The Republic (G.A.R.) Veteran Membership Medal features a high desirable, traceable serial number. Established immediately following the American Civil War. the GAR served as the premier fraternal organization for Union Army and Navy Veterans. This original medal features the clean, unaltered early serial number A11487 stamped crisply on the lower rim edge of the five pointed star, This number corresponds directly to the original veteran;s ledger entry in the Grand Army Of The Republic national or state archives, making it a fully trackable, researchable piece of Union military history! Advanced G.A.R. collectors with access to post rolls or state records will find this a fantastic research project! In good vintage/antique condition, the bronze components show a beautiful, untouched deep mustard patina with crisp, sharp details. The original flag ribbon shows honest fraying and aging, as pictured, which is completely expected for its 100+ year old age. All mechanical connection loops remain solid, tight and original.
