A fine antique Continental European pewter lidded flagon, 18th to 19th century, probably French, Swiss, or German. The baluster body is richly decorated overall with hand-engraved and wriggled (wrigglework) ornament: drapery swags and beaded lambrequins at the neck, a bold fan/sunburst medallion on the belly, and lobed gadroon panels below, all worked against fine zigzag-textured grounds. Hinged domed lid with scrolled shell thumbpiece, double-scroll handle with acanthus detail, and shaped pouring spout.
No touch marks found; unmarked, as often encountered.
Measurements: Approximately 11" tall. Weighs 59 oz.
Condition: Very good antique condition with a pleasing, untouched gray patina. The lid hinge works properly, and the body is free of splits, has small repair at base. Base shows honest wear consistent with age. Please see photos, which form part of the description.
